Archaeological investigations at Green Park have been undertaken as part of satisfying planning conditions. Horncastle has funded an archaeological investigation on its development site at Newport, known as Green Park.

The aim of the evaluation is to determine the exact scale, location, nature, depth and possible significance of certain palaeolithic channels that have been identified.

It is nowadays a requirement on new developments where construction is proposed that archaeological evaluations are carried out in the field to potentially discover or preserve heritage assets, loosely defined as something of value because of its contribution to society or past culture.

Evaluation on Green Park, Newport has now been completed and PDR Construction moved onto the site to begin construction of the new development, leisure and industrial park on Tuesday 26th August 2014. The initial phase being due for completion in April 2015.
