The planning application for Brough South looks at the ‘big picture’ and can address the big issues facing Brough and the surrounding areas.
It is firstly important to note that our application for outline planning permission has only recently been lodged and discussions with ERYC will be ongoing over the thirteen week determination period. The application is for outline planning permission only; this means that if outline planning permission is granted, the detail relating to the design and layout will be dealt with as part of the reserved matters applications. The layout and the uses will therefore evolve with opportunities for input from the local community over the coming years.
It is important to look at the ‘big picture’ as we are all aware that there has been significant development in Brough and the surrounding villages over the last ten years and more is now proposed in the form of Brough South and the Tesco proposal. However, when considering the proposed developments, it is important to take into account factors such as the emerging Core Strategy and the changes at the BAe Systems site.
We believe that Brough South should be the preferred site for the supermarket development as it is located adjacent to the existing areas of population; it will be at the heart of the community and can best meet the needs of the local community. It will also help reduce traffic using the A63 interchange.
The BAe site is a hugely important strategic employment site and we hope it can continue to be used for high value employment in the future. The existing access to the site via Brough centre is not appropriate for a large production facility and will not be able to cope with large volumes of commercial traffic that may be generated from the site. Brough South has the ability to deliver the enhanced infrastructure that will ensure that there is appropriate access to the BAe facility and avoid potential issues in the centre.
If Brough, Elloughton, Welton, Melton and the other surrounding villages are to prosper, then there must be a plan to deal with the ‘big picture’. The existing infrastructure is under pressure and a large project like Brough South can deliver the scale of investment needed in roads, schools, healthcare, retail and leisure facilities and amenities to cater for future growth and help to make the area more sustainable for the long term.
